7 May,2011 - In a series of variety of celebrations in form and content, Israel's FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation held its ceremonial meeting in the Red Army Forest,located near Jerusalem, which was its main memorial event of Victory Day ,already in its fifth consecutive year. The imposing memorial stone inscription which reads: "This forest is planted in honor of Israel's citizens of the Soviet Army. 1950 ", brought together members of the Knesset, the Russian Embassy diplomats, employees of the Russian Cultural Center in Tel Aviv, the leaders and activists of compatriots' organizations, the Association of Graduates of Soviet and Russian higher educational institutions (the Arab sector), representatives of several cities in Israel, and veterans. In his speech, before laying a wreath,the Head of the FA Rossotrudnichestvo Representation in Israel, Alexander Kryukov, congratulated those present on the occasion and stressed the importance of maintaining the tradition to gather on the eve of May 9 in this historic place. It is important not only as a unique historical and ideological object, but also as a shining example of a rare unity of Israeli society, regardless of ethnic, religious or political affiliation. Kryukov also showed a copy of the Victory Banner, specially brought from Moscow, and spoke of its heroic story. The Information and cultural stand of the RCC, displayed photographs of the war years, sounded Soviet songs and served traditional Russian food, enjoying great popularity among the visitors of all ages and nationalities. The event was covered by a film crew from the "Russia" channel. A day earlier, on May 6, the RCC team had gathered in the Red Army forest at full strenght for regular cleaning of the area adjacent to the monument, assumimg their moral obligations of culture and information, in caring for this special memorial site, which is dear and held in high esteem by Russians and Israelis. |
